Skincare: Will Ferrell’s Super Mega Sexy Hot Tan Sunscreen with SPF 30

The packaging is everything!

The days are getting longer and sunnier. And you always wear sunscreen while outside, right? Right?! Why not practice safe sun and support a great cause with Will Ferrell’s Super Mega Sexy Hot Tan sunscreen with SPF 30.

Sales of Super Mega Sexy Hot Tan benefit Cancer for College, a California based non-profit that offers college scholarships to cancer survivors. Gratitude for twice beating lymphoma inspired founder Craig Pollard to launch CFC about 23 years ago.

Pollard was fraternity brothers at the University of Southern California with future comedy star Ferrell. The two stayed friends over the years, as Ferrell’s career took off.

“Will Ferrell has been a supporter of CFC since day one,” Greg Flores, executive director of CFC, told me. Ferrell hosts and participates in fundraising events for CFC, and sits on the board of the organization.

About five years ago, CFC employees were playing around with the idea of putting Ferrell’s image on something, and making him sort of the Paul Newman of CFC. “I mean, when you have Will Ferrell involved in your charity, you try to make things fun!,” Flores said.

So CFC came up with the idea of putting Ferrell on a tube of sunscreen. Not only would it be funny and a little ridiculous to put Will Ferrell on sunscreen, but it would be a nice tie-in between sunscreen and skin cancer prevention.

So CFC found a third-party manufacturer of sunscreen, and put silly labels on it. (See above. The packaging is everything!) It ultimately became a fun novelty item, Flores explained.

You might find it in smaller stores and niche outlets such as surf shops in sunny areas, if they are cool enough to carry it. Otherwise, you can order it from CFC’s online store.

And you can feel good about your purchase. “Young cancer survivors want to get back to their regular lives and go to school,” said Flores. Unfortunately, cancer treatment often drains the financial resources of their families, making it very difficult to afford a college education.

That’s where CFC comes in. “We have given more than 1,000 scholarships to cancer survivors, largely due to Will Ferrell’s involvement and the good work he does on our behalf,” Flores said.

I love Ferrell’s movie Old School and his impersonation of George W. Bush on SNL. What is your favorite Will Ferrell moment? Let me know in the comments!

Product Review: Kylie Lip Kit in 22

KylielipkitpackagingI said I’d have a review of the Kylie Lip Kit up today, and I am a woman of my word.* I gave it a real test: a marathon Easter dinner with the fam.

The Lip Kit comprises a lip liner and matte liquid lipstick. The lipstick smells sweet, like frosting. You line your lips, then fill them in with liquid lipstick.

Between the lip liner and the matte lipstick formula, the Lip Kit had serious staying power. It was still on my lips when I got home after driving more than an hour from the restaurant. As in after a three-course dinner, and 3 glasses of water and drinks!

The only negative. As a matte formula, the liquid lipstick was very drying on my lips. But any matte lipstick I have tried has felt really dry, not just the Lip Kit. I always forget that, which is why I sometimes get suckered into buying matte lipsticks.

The post today on Glamour‘s Kylie Lip Kit live blog offers a good solution: Kylie keeps a Chap Stick (really any lip balm will work) in her purse and slicks it on over the Lip Kit for moisture.

I like the Kylie Lip Kit, and will probably wear it in the fall when I wear blue, but I have to remember that matte formulas in general are just not my jam.

Can’t get to the computer before all the Lip Kits sell out? Don’t worry. I’ve got you! This post on Refinery 29 gives pretty good dupe options. And if you scroll down on the Lip Kit live blog, Glamour gives you some great dupes for the new, deep purple color, Kourt K.

Don’t forget about Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics’ cult-fave Lip Tars. OCC makes matching lip liners, too. You can buy OCC online at Nordstrom. And like the Kylie Lip Kits, OCC products are cruelty free.

Do you wear matte lipstick? What has you experience been? Let me know in the comments!

p.s. FYI. All eight Kylie Lip kits are restocked tonight at 7 pm ET.

*I purchased the Kylie Lip Kit in the color called 22. Opinions are my own.

Fabulous Links of the Week: Easter Edition

EasterBunny

Plants grow from Lush massage bars, Will Ferrell has a sunscreen for charity, color correcting becomes the new highlighting and contouring, Patrick Dempsey gets his makeup done by his wife, and Reese Witherspoon turns the big 4-0, in this week’s Fabulous Links!

Have you seen the pictures of plants growing in people’s bathrooms after they used the Lush Wiccy Magic Muscles massage bar? The bars contain aduki beans, which seem to like the humid, dank environment of a tub/shower. Cool, in a weird kind of way. (Refinery 29)

Sales of Will Ferrell’s Super Mega Sexy Hot Tan raise money for college scholarships for cancer survivors. The packaging is hysterical, and apparently the SPF 30 sunscreen is safe and really works! (Allure)

Color correcting and color correcting palettes are the newest beauty trend. This helpful video explains how to use them, and the post gives you a few suggestions if you are in the market for color correcting makeup. (Zoe Report)

How cute is this video of Patrick Dempsey (a.k.a. McDreamy) getting his makeup done by his wife, Jillian? (Glamour)

Happy Birthday, Reese! (Glamour)

This week, I unboxed my Kylie Lip Kit (review coming on Monday, I promise!), and tried Filorga Sleep-Recover Fatigue Correcting Night Balm and Patchology FlashPatch Lip Gels.

Hope every one is having a wonderful holiday weekend! Happy Easter and Happy Spring! xoxo

Product Review: Patchology FlashPatch Lip Gels

PatchologyFlashPatchLipGelsI can’t wait to wear bright lip colors this spring, but I have to soothe my dry, chapped lips first! A quick Google search turned up FlashPatch Lip Gels from Patchology.* How cool looking are they?!

The FlashPatch Lip Gels are sheet masks for your lips. The lip-shaped hydrogels are infused with niacinamide, to retain moisture; green tea extract, to relieve irritation; and peptides, to soften lines and wrinkles.

Like sheet masks, the gels are soaked in a fluid containing the active ingredients. When I opened the jar, the juice flew everywhere, so be careful!

The fluid makes the gels slippery to handle: they are stacked up in the jar, and you have to use a little plastic tool that comes with them to get the individual gels out. And they are somewhat pricey, at $50 for 24 lip gels.

But if your lips took a beating this winter, or if you’re someone who spends a lot of time outside, they really work! I left the gel on for ten minutes, and my lips looked firm and smooth. They felt really soft, too.

Patchology FlashPatch Lip Gels are available online at Nordstrom.

Product Review: Filorga Sleep-Recover Fatigue Correcting Night Balm

FilorgaSleepRecoverNightBalmI recently discovered a new skin care brand, Filorga, and one of its hero products, Sleep-Recover Fatigue Correcting Night Balm.* This stuff is amazing when you don’t want to look sleep deprived, but you really are.

You use the balm at the evening and it is supposed to reduce the tell-tale signs of late nights, such as puffiness and dark circles. It contains silk tree extract and Indian horse chestnut extract, and a proprietary molecule called NCTF.

The press materials sent to me came with the subject line “8 Hours of Sleep in a Bottle.” I don’t know if the Sleep-Recover balm is a substitute for a good night’s sleep, but I wake up looking really refreshed when I slather it on before bed.

I use the balm after cleansing with micellar water, and then I follow it with eye cream and Cover F/X Custom Infusion Drops Anti-Aging.

The balm has a woody, citrus-y smell that I love. It doesn’t feel too greasy, either.

You can shop Filorga skin care online at Nordstrom.com.

Have you ever heard of Filorga? How do you get rid of under eye bags, dark circles, and puffiness when you’ve been burning the candle at both ends? Let me know in the comments!

Makeup: Unboxing the Kylie Lip Kit in 22

Last Saturday, I ordered a Kylie Lip Kit. What can I tell you? My professional curiosity got the best of me, and its amazing what you’ll do when you’re zooted on cough syrup.

I got the color called ’22’, an orange-based red. I picked 22 because I don’t really have any orange-y reds in my makeup bag, and orange is supposed to make blue eyes pop.

Here’s the box. I love the dripping lipstick logo.

The lip liner and liquid lipstick come nestled in this smaller box.

And I swatched the lip liner and lipstick on my arm.

Kylie Lip Kits typically sell out within 15 minutes of being restocked. I wanted to get this post up quickly, because according to the Glamour magazine Kylie Lip Kit blog, a restock is happening at 7 p.m. Eastern tonight on the Kylie Cosmetics web site. All seven colors will be available.

I think I got Kylie Lip Kits out of my system, but Koko K, Posie K, and Candy K look pretty. And Mary Jo K, a blue-based red, looks very French It Girl.

Apparently, big sis Kourtney is getting her own color, too. ‘Kourt K’ is a dark purple that won’t be available tonight, but it is coming soon.

I’ll post a review later this week. Just let me give the Lip Kit a fair trial, and get myself ready for a selfie or two. .

Have you tried a Kylie Lip KIt? Would you? Tell me in the comments!

Product Review: Kiehl’s Deep Micro-Exfoliating Scalp Treatment

Kiehl's Deep Micro-Exfoliating Scalp Treatment

Kiehl’s Deep Micro-Exfoliating Scalp Treatment

I took this post in the Zoe Report as a hint my hair care regimen might be missing something. And since my chest cold was still kicking my behind, and pampering yourself at home is the bet way I know to feel better, I tried the Kiehl’s Deep Micro-Exfoliating Scalp Treatment I bought. I said I’d report back, and I am a woman of my word

My scalp tends to be really itchy, especially in the early spring and fall, when the weather can’t make up its mind. I also get a lot of dandruff when that happens. Yuck.

I have to say, the Kiehl’s scalp treatment really helped. It smells medicinal, because it has camphor and menthol in it, but it does smell better than most dandruff shampoos I’ve tried.

You massage it into a dry or damp scalp, rinse it out after five minutes, and then shampoo as usual. I didn’t notice any lingering medicine smell. Just the scent of my shampoo.

My scalp felt lighter and cleaner, and definitely itched less after I used the treatment twice. I have noticed less dandruff, too. Yay. And my hair looked a lot cleaner between shampoos.

I am definitely incorporating scalp exfoliation into my hair routine. The Zoe Report post mentions the Kiehl’s treatment, two Christophe Robin scalp treatments, and a scalp exfoliant by Alterna.

I am not sure you need to spend Christophe Robin kind of money on a product you are supposed to use just once or twice a week. But I will be on the lookout for the Alterna Caviar Clinical Exfoliating Scalp Facial when I’m done with the Kiehl’s.

Kiehl’s Deep Micro-Exfoliating Scalp Treatment  and Alterna Caviar Clinical Exfoliating Scalp Facial are available online.

Do you use an exfoliating scalp treatment? If so, which one? Please share in the comments!
