Photography: The Highline Photo Shoot, Part 1

And Photo Week continues! A few Saturdays ago, I was going to attend a photography workshop in Manhattan. The topic was studio lighting. Well, the organizer canceled it at the last minute. These things happen, but I was pissed. I had not signed up for my usual yoga class in anticipation of attending the workshop, and it was too late to get to the yoga studio.

So, in an effort to salvage the day, I grabbed my camera and went to The Highline, a public park that runs along the west side of Manhattan from the Meatpacking District to West 34th Street in Midtown. The Highline is kind of like a walkway, and it overlooks Hoboken, Weehawken, and Edgewater, New Jersey.

I took about 80 or 90 photographs, so I’ll share the best ones in three parts. Enjoy part 1!

I believe this is in the mid-20s facing eastward.

I love the combination of the daisies, the texture in the bricks, and the rich blue sky!

Got this yellow cab from overhead.

Pretty marina, and that tower to the left is Stevens Institute in Hoboken.

This was getting towards the end of the walk.

I love that I can get shots like this one of a crew team on the Hudson with my new lens!

There is a lot of greenery and flowers on The Highline.

Like I said, flora and fauna everywhere!

Where do you like to take pictures in your city? Are there neighborhoods that are particularly photogenic? Share your favorite photo shoot locations (and your best pics) in the comments!

This year, I’m doing the Eyecandy Project 52 photography challenge. Every week, we have to take a picture inspired by a prompt, such as From Above. Some prompts are relevant to the time of year, some are more evergreen. I’ll post my more successful efforts here about once a quarter. Check out the Q1 highlights here.
