Unboxing The Zoe Report Box of Style x Sunday Riley Winter 2016-17 Box

The folks at The Zoe Report Box of Style graciously sent me the Winter 2016-17 box for a test drive.* The items were gorgeous! The card stock of the box was nice and thick.

The Rachel Zoe Box of Style

Everything came beautifully wrapped

You get a booklet that tells you about the items in your Box of Style, and tips from Rachel Zoe on how to, well, style them. You get beauty tips from RZ, too.

The Box of Style booklet

Let’s look at the beauty stuff first. The reason I wanted to try this Box of Style was because the email I got had Box of Style x Sunday Riley as the subject line, and I’ve been dying to try Sunday Riley skin care for awhile. I’ll do a separate post at the end of the week and share my thoughts about it.

I love the candle, hat, and card case. I also love that the candle and card case were created exclusively for Box of Style. I’ve put the candle in my room. It smells like a pine forest. Pine reminds me of the holidays, my favorite time of year.

And the card case has room for business cards, or for your ID and money if you just want to run to the store. It also keeps things organized when you go out at night, and want to carry a smaller bag.

Inside the card case

The card case has another pocket on the back.

I tend to gravitate toward smaller, under-the-radar brands, so it was fun to discover D.L. & Co., Soia & Kyo, and Dagne Dover. I’d never heard of them before, so I checked out their web sites. They make beautiful things!

The ‘hero item’ is the ‘Zoey’ necklace by Dylanlex. Its look is pretty timeless, if you ask me. It has an adjustable clasp, so it can be styled in a couple different ways. Like the candle and card case, it was created exclusively for Box of Style.

I’d never heard of Dylanlex before, either, so I went onto their web site as well. The Liam bracelet and Sway brooch have that vintage vibe I’m into. They have gorgeous rings, too.

Tell me. Do you like the subscription lifestyle/beauty boxes (eg., Birchbox or Memebox) that seem to be so popular? Do you think they are worth the money? Let’s talk discovery commerce in the comments!

This year, I’m doing the Eyecandy Project 52 photography challenge. Every week, we have to take a picture inspired by a prompt, such as From Above. Some prompts are relevant to the time of year, some are more evergreen. I’m thinking I’ll post my more successful efforts here about once a quarter. Wish me luck!

2016 Holiday Gift Guide: For Her

I loved putting together my holiday gift guide and vegan beauty gift guide last year. I had a blast putting this year’s guide together, too! As always, I tried to include things in a range of price points. Who knows? You may even get some ideas about what you want from Santa…

I love Bobbi Brown. Her colors are gorgeous and her products go on like a dream and last and last. This ‘Bobbi’s Beauty Book’ palette with six eye shadows, blush, bronzer, and lip gloss takes girls-on-the-go from day to night.

Remember last year, when I got the K.I.S.S..I.N.G. mini lipstick charms from Charlotte TIlbury? This year, Charlotte came out with lipstick charms in her Matte Revolution formula. It includes Red Carpet Red, a classic Holiywood red, Amazing Grace, a pretty pink inspired by Grace Kelly, and Very Victoria, a nod to Victoria Beckham’s signature taupe nude lip.

Urban Decay dropped the mic when they came out with their Naked Ultimate Basics eye shadow palette this fall. The looks the UD’er on your list could create with this are endless.

Makeup Brushes

I think makeup brushes are almost more important than the makeup itself. I mean, makeup washes off with soap and water, right? If you use a good primer and good tools, your makeup will always look amazing.

Check out this basic brush set from Bobbi Brown. Its pretty much everything the makeup maven on your list will need, and they will last her a lifetime. I love my Bobbi Brown blush and eye shadow brushes, and I’ve had them for years.

I get it. Not every one wants to drop $200 on a set of makeup brushes. How about the Sephora Collection Face the Day Full Face Brush Set? Its got a powder brush, foundation brush, large shadow brush, large brow brush, and smudge brush in a trifold case. BTW, I am also loving this ‘Tools of the Trade’ brush set from Sephora.

I’m obsessed with the Netflix series The Crown. The girl who also binge-watched the adventures of young Queen Elizabeth 2 and her party-hearty kid sister, Margaret, may love the royalty-inspired ‘Her Majesty’s Nail Color Set’ from Deborah Lippmann.

This EVENTful Nail Lacquer set from butterLODON is another cute option.

If your niece/daughter/grandaughter is a regular at her local blow out bar, she may be into the Let It Blow! Drybar to Go Ultimate Travel Essentials Kit. You get a travel hair dryer, travel hair brush, dry shampoo, dry conditioner, and hair clips, all in a cute travel pouch.

Another option? The Spread Cheer and Perfect Hair set from Living Proof. You know I love Living Proof . And their dry shampoo won an Allure Best of Beauty award.

You know me and scent. It’s complicated. But if you have a fragrance lover in your life, she may like this Jo Malone London cologne collection. She’ll get five of Jo Malone’s signature scents, and she can mix and match. Bonus: it comes in a pretty gift box. (I suck at gift wrapping and hate it.)

Or if your giftee is like my grandmother who loves scented candles, how about this gorgeous votive candle set from celeb-fave brand diptyque?

If all else fails, Sephora, Nordstrom, and Ulta have tons of great ideas for the beauty buffs on your list. And if you need stocking stuffers, I’ve got you.

I am looking to get more into photography in 2017, so I have asked for a camera and photography lessons for the holidays. What are you hoping to find under the tree?

This month, I’m taking the 25 Days of Christmas Photo a Day Challenge on Instagram, courtesy of blogger and shutterbug extraordinaire LaShawn Wiltz of Everyday Eyecandy. I’ll be posting pics daily inspired by Christmas- and holiday-themed prompts, using the hashtag #eyecandyholidaychallenge.

scent birdI just heard about a new discovery commerce site called Scentbird. As the name suggests, the service delivers designer perfume samples to your door every month. The samples are purse size; at 0.27 fl. oz., they are about the size of a rollerball. And the price is purse friendly as well: $14.95 per month.

You pick the perfume. Choose from more than 350 designer fragrances including Hermes, Gucci, Versace, Dolce & Gabanna, and Marc Jacobs. You can also ask Scentbird’s TruScent Recommender for suggestions, or find a match by searching according to occasion, brand, or my favorite criterion, your perfume personality.

The perfumes are decanted from the original bottles into Scentbird’s cute spray flask, as seen in the pic above.

Scentbird is the brainchild of Mariya Nurislamova, who understands the frustration of the “perfume graveyard,” the bottles of designer perfume collecting dust on dresser tops everywhere. See below for my stash of shame.

Yep, that's all of them.

Yep, that’s all of them.

In a press release, Nurislamova said, “The number one reason that women buy perfume is to find something new or different…Expensive perfume bottles that last for years just cannot keep up with a modern woman’s lifestyle.”

I have been wearing The Body Shop White Musk and Liz Claiborne for just about forever. As I am sure I have mentioned on here, I am very sensitive to fragrances used in products, so I am always reluctant to try new perfumes.

Do you like to try new perfumes, or do you have a so-called signature scent? Would you try Scentbird?

p.s. It makes a great gift for the perfume lover or mom in your life.
