Makeup: Blushington UES

Its been a cray week. On Monday, I went to a launch event for a new laser used for skin resurfacing. And on Wednesday I had two back-to-back holiday parties in the city.

In the middle of all this, I did revisions for a piece for a new client and wrote a story for a regular client, The Doctor Will See You Now. By Friday, I needed a serious break.

So this morning, I treated myself to a complimentary makeup application at the new Blushington location in New York City on the Upper East Side. I chose the Everyday Pure & Simple look. Here’s the finished result:

My makeup artist Neah used three products that I particularly loved: Jouer Essential Lip Enhancer lip primer; Julie Hewett Los Angeles lipstick in ‘Jacqueline’, a pink fuchsia; and the Stila Eyes Are the Window eye shadow palette in ‘Mind’, which is similar to Urban Decay’s new Naked Ultimate Basics palette. The whole look was very soft and pretty!

The lip enhancer helped my lipstick last and kept my lips moisturized, even while walking around freezing, windy Manhattan. And I love the ‘Jacqueline’ lipstick, inspired by Mrs. Kennedy herself. I think it would be especially nice in the summer with a tan.

Blushington sells the products they use. It took major self control to get out of there without buying anything! You can learn more about Blushington here.

I rarely get my makeup done by a pro, except for a real treat. (The full makeup service, normally $65, was free to celebrate the opening of the new location! I love free!) Do you get your makeup done often? If so, have you picked up any tips or tricks along the way that you incorporated into your regular routine? Let’s talk makeup hacks in the comments!

Today is the big day. Blushington NYC opens! I had a nice chat last week with Blushington CEO and founder Stephi Maron, and wanted to share some of the highlights.

“New York City has always been on our radar, it was just a matter of when and where,” Maron said. She went on to say the director of marketing for the Parker Meridien reached out to her and her team about the potential opportunity, and it turned out to be a perfect fit. “We love the fact that its right across from a DryBar and a Tenoverten nail salon!,” said Maron.

She also said she is very excited about Blushington’s new Blush-Up mobile lounge service. “We provide two artists and we can go to any event and provide touch-ups for the guests.” Blushington is now doing lash and brow extensions as well. They will even come to you!

Blushington also offers makeup classes. “Our most popular class is Makeup 101,” Maron said. She explained that you can bring in your own makeup, and a Blushington makeup artist will do one half of your face, then you will do the other, so you can recreate the look at home.

Maron started Blushington three years ago with the first location in West Hollywood, Calif. “It just felt there was a need in the market for a place like Blushington, where you can go and get your makeup done at an affordable price, with professional makeup artists in a fun atmosphere,” she said. “And of course we serve champagne, so that always makes it fun!”

The Blushington experience is about making women feel beautiful and confident, yet looking like themselves, said Maron. “Our motto is, ‘You only better!’”

To celebrate the grand opening in NYC, Blushington is offering free makeup services all week, according to its Twitter feed! So get going!

Blushington NYC Opens!

Today I got to do the coolest thing. I had my makeup done at Blushington, the makeup and beauty lounge from California that is opening a location here in New York City.

The New York City location officially opens on July 29th. It is located in The Underground of the Parker Meridien Hotel, right by the Dry Bar blow out bar and Tenoverten nail salon, so its a one-stop shop.

I have never had my makeup done professionally before, and I loved it. Blushington uses high-end brands like Becca, Jouer, and Temptu. I chose a natural, but slightly glow=y look from the Blushington look book. My makeup artist, Jackie, was amazing. A lot of highlighting, contouring, and popping of the eye makeup was happening. It still looks like me, only better!

My fellow beauty bloggers/editors and I also got to meet the Blushington team: CEO and founder Stephi Maron; her sister, Nicki Maron, who is Blushington’s chief marketing officer; lead makeup artist Jessica Scantlin; and Natasha Cornstein, president of Blushington.

Stephi and Nicki said Blushington is on track to open 10 locations in New York City over the next three to five years. Woot, woot! They already have three locations: West Hollywood and Newport Beach, California, and Dallas, Texas. A fifth Blushington is set to open this fall in California.

Have you ever had your makeup done professionally? What was your experience? Let me know in the comments!
