Photography: Everyday Eyecandy Project 52, Q2

It’s that time: here are the highlights of my Q2 pictures for the Everyday Eyecandy Project 52 on Instagram and Facebook. You can check out my Q1 highlights here.

The prompt for week 26 was Summertime. I love the rainbow visible in the water fountain at Pier A Park here in Hoboken!

The prompt for week 24 was Photographer’s Choice. Can you spot the bee?

The prompt for week 19 was Friends. And what do friends do? Get ice cream!

The prompt for week 15 was Negative Space. I just liked this picture, and it got 40+ likes on Instagram, which is a lot for me.

Well, there you have it. I’ll post again with Q3 highlights in October!

Photography: Everyday Eyecandy Project 52

Remember how I said I was doing the Everyday Eyecandy Project 52 over on Instagram and Facebook? And that I’d post about my progress about once every quarter? Well, Q1 is in the books, my friends! So here are a few of my favorites.

The beginning is a great place to start. The prompt for week 1 was Me at the Beginning.

The prompt for week 6 was black and white. I love these old posts in front of the turn-of-the-century brownstones in Hoboken!

The beautiful rich colors in this photo…

…make it a good black and white photo.

The prompt for week 11 was portrait. I call this “tortitude.” I took this picture in the LHS cattery for my photography class final project.

“Bokeh” was the prompt for week 12. Bokeh is an Instagram word for limited depth of field. See how the tulip in the foreground is in focus, but the flowers in the background are fuzzy?

What can I tell you? Flowers make for great bokeh pictures…

Hope you enjoyed my favorites (so far). And can you believe it? Today was my final photography class! I’ll share some more picture stories I did for class over the next few weeks, including my final project about our local animal shelter.

Tell me. What do you like to photograph? Family? Animals? Landscapes? Let’s talk subject matter in the comments!

This year, I’m doing the Eyecandy Project 52 photography challenge. Every week, we have to take a picture inspired by a prompt, such as From Above. Some prompts are relevant to the time of year, some are more evergreen. I’m thinking I’ll post my more successful efforts here about once a quarter. Wish me luck!

Photography: The Everyday Eyecandy 25 Days of Christmas Photo-a-Day Challenge

This month, I took the 25 Days of Christmas Photo a Day Challenge on Instagram, courtesy of blogger and shutterbug extraordinaire LaShawn Wiltz of Everyday Eyecandy. I thought it might be fun to share some of my more successful efforts.

I caught the lights reflecting off the river in this shot.

Pier 1 has such pretty ornaments. Glitter everywhere, though. Sort of a pet peeve of mine.

The Nutcracker at Lincoln Center is my favorite New York City holiday tradition. Nothing, repeat nothing, is cuter than little girls in Christmas dresses twirling like ballerinas in the theater lobby.

The 2016 LoBuono family tree. Papa Bear got a good one this year!

My family went out to eat on Christmas Eve. The restaurant was decorated for the holidays. It looked like Christmas exploded in there.

I got a camera and photography classes for Christmas, so more photos to come in 2017! Now I just need to learn how to actually use my new camera….

What are your favorite holiday memories and traditions? Share (and pics too!) in the comments below!

Fabulous Links of the Week

Not much has gone on in beauty land this week. (The opening of a Kylie Cosmetics pop-up store in Los Angeles doesn’t count, IMHO.) However, Pantone did name the color of the year for 2017, and it’s …green?! I don’t wear a lot of green, but I’ll dig through my stuff and see what I have. You can read the piece about it in the New York Times here. And enjoy this video. I couldn’t resist!

Since it was a slow week beauty wise, I wanted to share a few of my favorite pics from the 25 Days of Christmas Holiday Challenge.

This week on the blog, I talked about my fun makeover at Blushington and debuted my 2016 Holiday Gift Guide! And here’s the link to my Stocking Stuffer guide.

As I mentioned above, I’m taking the 25 Days of Christmas Photo a Day Challenge on Instagram, courtesy of blogger and shutterbug extraordinaire LaShawn Wiltz of Everyday Eyecandy. I’ll be posting pics daily inspired by Christmas- and holiday-themed prompts, using the hashtag #eyecandyholidaychallenge.

Photography: The #naphopomo Challenge

In November, I took the National Photo Posting Month (#naphopomo) challenge on Instagram. I took the theme gratitude, seeing as how it was close to Thanksgiving and all. Basically, you had to post a photo a day using the hashtag #naphopomo. Since the theme was gratitude, I also used hashtags like #dailythanksgiving, #dailygratitude, #givethanksdaily, #30daysofthanksgiving, and #30daysofgratitude. See where I’m going with this?

To kick off the weekend, I thought it might be fun to share a few of my fave #naphopomo photos:

The Instagram #everydayphotoaday Challenge

If you follow this blog, you know that in October, I took the #everydayphotoaday challenge on Instagram. I loved the challenge of finding cool, interesting things to photograph and post  every day. Since it is the weekend, I thought it would be fun to share a few of my favorite pics with you. So in no particular order:

Each day, I posted a photograph based on a list of prompts. For example, the prompt for October 19th was starts with a B, the prompt for the 24th was In My Bag, etc.

I found out about the challenge from Lashawn Wiltz over at Everyday Eyecandy. If you’ve never checked out Lashawn’s blog, you definitely should, especially if you are into photography. She is an amazing photographer, and shares really great tips there!

This month I am doing #naphopomo (for National Photo Posting Month), so I’ll post (at least) one picture a day on Instagram. Since November is a month dedicated to gratitude and giving thanks, I am adding the hashtags #30daysofgratitude, #30daysofthanks, #givethanksdaily, #dailygratitude, and #dailygratitude2016.

So tell me. What are you thankful for this November? Are you as photography obsessed as me? Let’s talk in the comments!
