Kicking Off 2019!

Me In the Beginning

Wow! I have not blogged since August! I thought my last post was in October. I’ve actually had to address a few things health wise, so that was a priority. (I’m fine. I was auditioning new eye doctors and ear doctors.) I also Marie Kondo’d the hell out of my apartment. All the clutter was really affecting my mental health.

And I was on the committee for the Newswomen’s Club of New York annual Front Page Awards. That definitely kept me busy. A wonderful evening celebrating top female journos was had by all.

Yup. That’s the master himself, Carl Bernstein. He was at the Front Page Awards to present an award to the NY Times’ Maggie Haberman. He is north of 80, and rearranged his schedule to take a train from Washington, DC, to be there. I am not worthy.

But I am going to do my best and return here on a regular basis. And I see by my e-mail notifications I have a few new followers. Welcome, ladies!

I thought a few Fabulous Links would get us started.

Jennifer Lopez is coming out with a makeup line this year. The woman looks better at 49 than I did at 29. I’ll have what she’s having. (Refinery 29)

You may have heard. The Pantone Color of the Year for 2019 is called Living Coral. I love coral clothes and makeup, especially for the warmer weather. I can’t wait! Check out these picks from Allure for inspiration. (Allure) How gorgeous is that Almay palette…

If you love New York City as much as I do, you may have heard about Bond No. 9, a line of perfumes inspired by locations around the Big Apple. Now the brand has come out with a line of red lipsticks. If you are always searching for that perfect red, like me, your search may be over. (Allure)

Gray hair is apparently trending. (Wall Street Journal)

Oh, and Jean Ann Ford, co-founder of Benefit Cosmetics, has passed. Truly an innovator. She will be missed. (Allure)

As for me, I am participating in Everyday Eyecandy‘s Project 52 photography project this year. The first prompt is You In the Beginning. That’s me above. In the beginning. I’ll keep you updated on how it’s going. I loved picking my camera up again,

I am still writing for The Doctor Will See You Now. One of my articles last month was about endocrine-disrupting chemicals in personal care products and their link to early puberty in girls. You can check that out here.

In 2019, I looking to spend more time doing what I love: blogging and photography. What are you looking to accomplish in 2019? Let’s talk goals and resolutions in the comments!

Fabulous Links of the Week

Enjoying a summer night in NYC at a rooftop bar with my friend Laurie.

Happy Monday! Dang, this weekend was a hot one here in NJ and NYC! Lately, beauty news has been pretty hot, too. Urban Decay announced the launch of its new Urban Decay Naked Heat eye shadow palette, JLo posted a makeup-free selfie, and Salma Hayek is launching a line of smoothies and acai bowls, some of which can be used as a face mask.

Urban Decay is welcoming a new member to the Naked family. Get ready for the Urban Decay Naked Heat palette. The palette features terra cottas, coppers, and oranges. If you like your eye shadows in warmer tones, brace yourself. (Cooler tones look better on me. Boo.) The palette drops on June 30. (Allure)

Jennifer Lopez posted a makeup-free selfie from backstage in Las Vegas. How is this woman freaking 48 years old?!? (Glamour)

Salma Hayek collaborated with Juice Generation on Blend It Yourself, a line of smoothies and acai bowls delivered to your door all prepped and ready for you to well, blend it yourself! The line includes three Beauty Blends that can either be drunk as a smoothie or applied to your face as a skin care mask. Sip or slather. Yum! (WWD)

This week on the blog, I shared my Sephora birthday haul and my picture story about our local animal shelter. Also, I did a story for The Doctor Will See You Now about sunscreen. You are remembering to apply sunscreen, aren’t you?!

This year, I’m doing the Eyecandy Project 52 photography challenge. Every week, we have to take a picture inspired by a prompt, such as From Above. Some prompts are relevant to the time of year, some are more evergreen. I’ll post my more successful efforts here about once a quarter. Check out the Q1 highlights here.

New York Fashion Week just wrapped up. Here is a round up of he best beauty looks, courtesy of Allure. I am loving the green eye shadow at Brandon Maxwell and the deep ruby lip and birdcage veil at La Perla. (Allure)

This week on the blog, I stopped by Blushington again and shared pictures from my second week of photography class.

This year, I’m doing the Eyecandy Project 52 photography challenge. Every week, we have to take a picture inspired by a prompt, such as From Above. Some prompts are relevant to the time of year, some are more evergreen. I’m thinking I’ll post my more successful efforts here about once a quarter. Wish me luck!
