I have been fascinated by the Instagram feed of makeup artist and face painter Judith Bautista, a.k.a. Kahlovera. Bautista is known for her makeup designs celebrating Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead), a Mexican holiday that is also celebrated in some parts of Latin America on November 1 and 2.
If you are thinking of doing any sort of skull makeup tonight, or maybe you celebrate Day of the Dead, you may appreciate the tips and Dia de los Muertos backstory in this Allure blog post. Here are a few of my favorite pics from Bautista’s Instagram:

Anyway, if you read the Allure post, Bautista talks about Dia de los Muertos, and how it’s not supposed to be sad or scary, but actually a celebration of a loved one’s life. I think that’s great. When I think of the people I have lost in my life, such as my grandparents and my uncle, memories of the fun times we shared comfort me and keep me going.
You can find Bautista’s web site here.
Anyway, do you celebrate Dia de los Muertos? Who or what are you dressing up as for Halloween? Share stories and costume pics from the holiday in the comments!
The #everydayphotoaday challenge over on Instagram is basically over. (I just have to post a picture of my breakfast tomorrow. Well, OK.)
